BetterDesk ↗Get the RustDesk app for a private remote-desktop server and set it up for it. The app needs the server's name, its API address and its key; connections without that key are refused, and a new device has to be approved by the server's admin before it can connect.
1. Get the app
The Windows download is the official RustDesk program, only renamed: its file name carries this server's name, API address and key, so it is set up as soon as you start it (the settings are applied without showing in the Network page; Settings → About lists them). Installing it keeps them. For macOS and Android, install the app and then enter the settings below. Other systems and formats (Linux, Intel Mac, MSI, ...) are on GitHub Releases. All files come from there.
Keep the renamed file where its full path stays short (under 260 characters, for
example C:\Temp): Windows cuts off longer paths.
2. Server settings
Enter these in the app under Settings → Network → ID/Relay server, or use the one-string import below.
- ID server
...- Relay server
- leave empty (the ID server hands it out)
- API server
...- Key
...
The API server is what lets you log in with your account inside the app (user icon) and use the address book.
3. Or import everything at once
One string with all of the above. It holds no secret: the key is the public one.
...- Desktop app: copy the string, then Settings → Network → unlock → Import Server Config → Apply.
- Windows command line (for scripts): needs RustDesk installed and an
administrator prompt, otherwise it only prints "Installation and administrative
privileges required!".
... - Phone: in the RustDesk app open Settings, tap the QR-scanner icon at the top and scan this code, then check the values it shows and confirm. (Or copy the string above to the phone and use Import Server Config in the app's server settings.)
